UNITED HAVE NO OBVIOUS ANSWER TO MARTIAL DILEMMA

A response is needed from Manchester United’s forwards tomorrow night, though supporters have every right to feel dubious about them actually doing so. They were excused after struggling to score against Omonia last midweek, given the excellent individual performance of Francis Uzoho between the posts. It was labelled as ‘just one of those days’ when things don’t go quite right. If you were to replay the match, then United might have won it by a four or five-goal margin. Instead, they relied on Scott McTominay’s late strike to secure three points.

Over the weekend, that narrative changed. United’s narrow win was harder to justify as a bad day at the office when it was followed up by a goalless draw against Newcastle, a match in which Erik ten Hag’s side managed just two shots on goal. United were affected by the absence of arguably their two most influential attackers in the shape of Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen, and their creativity suffered. Not only did they struggle for composure and craftiness in midfield, but they also looked blunt in attack.

MARTINEZ KEEPS CLEAN SHEET FOR ARGENTINA

Manchester United star Lisandro Martinez was in the Argentina defence which kept a clean sheet during the 3-0 victory over Honduras in an international friendly clash played at the Hard Rock Stadium, Miami in Florida on Friday night. New Manchester United player Martinez was at the heart of the Argentina defence alongside Real Betis star German Pezzella.

New Manchester United defender Martinez and the aforementioned Pezzella were able to give the players in front of them the platform to dominate and win the game. They kept a clean sheet against Honduras thus paving the way for the great Lionel Messi to steal the headlines.

MANCHESTER UNITED ADD SEVEN PLAYERS TO THEIR EUROPA LEAGUE SQUAD

Manchester United have added academy youngsters Radek Vitek, Tyler Fredricson, Kobbie Mainoo, Zidane Iqbal, Shola Shoretire and Charlie McNeill to their Europa League squad ahead of Thursday night’s match against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford. United confirmed their 25-man squad for their Europa League campaign on Monday, but the academy youngsters have been added to the squad through the competition’s B list, which allows unlimited players born after 2000 and who have been on a club’s books for two or three years to be included. Anthony Elanga was not named on Monday but also qualifies for the B list due to his age.

UEFA’s rules for the Europa League outlines that each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than 24.00CET on the day before the match in question.
