France international Paul Pogba believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves the permanent managerial role at Manchester United after reviving the club’s fortunes during the backend of the season. The Red Devils were lying 11 points behind the Champions League positions when Jose Mourinho was sacked from the helm in December but Ole has managed to reverse their league form to the extent that they are within the cusp of the top four.
He said: “Of course we want him to stay. The results have been great. I have a great relationship with him; he has a great relationship with the players. When a player is happy, he wants to keep being happy. Solskjaer deserves it. He knows the club, he knows everything about the club. He is a really happy coach that gave confidence back to the players. This gave us the freedom to play and enjoy football again because maybe we lost that with the results we had before.”
Ole had helped the team go unbeaten for nearly three months in the Premier League before they succumbed to the defeat against Arsenal on the road. Since then, they have suffered another loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the quarter final stage of the FA Cup and this has produced question marks whether Ole deserves the permanent United job.
Still, the Norwegian continues to command the respect from the fans and players alike and it remains to be seen whether the former Champions League winner manages to land the permanent role. Manchester United return from the international break with a home league game against Watford.
