Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Manchester United have improved tremendously since suffering a 4-0 defeat against Everton back in April. This was seen as one of the biggest low points ofSolskjaer’s reign at the club. It led to many questioning his future and the decision by United to appoint him as the replacement for Jose Mourinho. Even though United have been far from consistent in the 2019-20 campaign, the team has been doing well to themselves in contention for the top four places. The club head into the weekend’s game against Everton without a defeat in the last four matches across all competitions.
Crucially, the club has been able to reach the upper stages of the Europa League after a comprehensive 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.United have also been able to win the group as a result. There is less doom and gloom surrounding United, but the team has to continue this good run of form in order to have a chance of finishing in the top four. For a club of United’s magnitude, they need to be regularly qualifying for the Champions League. United are four points away from Chelsea after 17 matches even after substantial strengthening in the summer with the arrivals of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James, and Harry Maguire.
Everton are a much improved outfit after the recent managerial change and they will once again pose a difficult challenge.”We’ve spoken enough about what happened that day and how we looked like a team. It was more or less a shambles, but I’ve said too many times this year as well, we’re not that group anymore. This is a different group, a group that’s ready for the fight and is ready for the football. Mentality sometimes is strange to explain. The mood is the camp is different, definitely,” said Solskjaer.
