Argentine winger Angel di Maria has claimed that he is finally feeling happy after having left Manchester United, a club where he spent only 12 months of his career.
Di Maria came to Old Trafford with huge expectations on his shoulders. There was a feeling that the Argentine had come to the right club. At Real Madrid, he was continuously overshadowed by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale simply because it had cost much less than the duo. Di Maria had shown his worth on a number of occasions including the Champions League final.
The 27-year-old, however, struggled a lot at United. The reasons are primarily being put forth as tiredness. After having been used to leagues where a winter break is provided, he had come to a league where there is usually an overload of matches during the Christmas period. This coupled with suggestions that he did not like the training program of manager Louis van Gaal meant that in departure was almost certain. It came in the form of a £ 45 million move to PSG in the summer. Di Maria thanked the United supporters in an open letter since his move. He has now stated that he was never happy at Old Trafford.
“Last year was pretty difficult for me – I couldn’t play and my injury was really complicated. Not being able to compete in the Champions League after having won it made it a pretty tough time for me.It’s really nice here. I train every day with a smile on my face – I’m happy to be here, and I have been settling in well with my team-mates.Paris is a really nice city. My family has felt very good here from the first day they arrived. That makes it a lot easier for me to focus on football,” said Di Maria.
