Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that Alexis Sanchez deserves his position on the substitutes’ bench, given he has not done enough to convince Ole Gunnar Solskjaer into handing him a starting role. The Chile international has struggled at the Red Devils since his move from Arsenal 13 months ago and he is currently regarded as not more than a game changer off the bench.
Against Paris Saint-Germain, Sanchez got another opportunity right to impress during the second period after both Martial and Jesse Lingard were sidelined with injuries. However, the Chilean was pretty much anonymous through the rest of the game and he was once more guilty of squandering possession of the ball which has become a trend since his Old Trafford move.
Meanwhile, United witnessed the end of their 11-match unbeaten run against Les Parisiens, who secured a comfortable 2-0 triumph over them at Old Trafford. Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe scored for the visitors but the margin could have been wider, had it not been for the strong keeping abilities of David de Gea.
The Red Devils will now shift their attention towards the FA Cup fifth round where they are scheduled to face Chelsea on the road. Based on the recent form, they have the advantage though Maurizio Sarri’s men should come up with a strong response after their recent 6-0 mauling at Manchester City in the Premier League.
