The manager of Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, has hailed Jonny Evans for his impressive performance in the ongoing season so far and has hinted that Evans might be given the opportunity to captain the Manchester United side in future.
Evans has been given starting opportunities in 14 Premier League matches and 4 Champions League matches in the ongoing season so far and he has been quite impressive in those matches.
Because of his consistent performances in the ongoing season, his contract was extended for the next 4 years last month.
Evans was not the first choice centre-back for Sir Alex Ferguson at the start of the season, but, because of the injuries of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, he got opportunities and he grabbed those opportunities with both hands.
Sir Alex Ferguson looked quite impressed with the performance of Evans in the season so far. He said, “Evans is an amazing player. He is very fast and has got fantastic feet. He has been a revelation for us in this season. The way he has taken the responsibility in the absence of the senior players shows that he has got great temperament.”
“He has improved quite a lot in the last two years both technically and temperamentally. He looks more composed and controls the ball better now.”
When asked about the upcoming Premier League match against the arch rivals Liverpool, Ferguson said, “The boys are obviously excited about the match. It’s going to be a big match for the players as well as for the fans.
In the last season, when we had faced Liverpool, there was a bit of controversy in that match. But, what happened in the last season is history. Hopefully, the upcoming match would be played in a friendly environment.”
