Newly appointed AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has identified Brazilian left-back Alex Telles as a potential replacement for LeonardoSpinazzola as he begins to run the rule on the playing squad at the capital club.
Mourinho and Roma wants left-back cover for Spinazzola after the Italian international picked up a long-term Achilles injury at the Euro 2020 tournament. Spinazzola impressed on the left side of the Italy defence before he picked up the injury in the second half of the quarterfinal clash with the Red Devils of Belgium. The AS Roma defender was one of the leading contenders for the best player at Euro 2020 before injury struck. In the end, Italian teammate GianlugiDonnaruma was named the best player of the Euro 2020 tournament after his heroics in the final against hosts England as he led Italy to a second title in the history of the European Championship.
Roma target Telles joined Manchester United from Porto in a £15.4m deal last summer and his arrival has helped to take Luke Shaw’s game to a better level. England international Shaw is the undisputed first choice left-back at Old Trafford after a stellar campaign last season and at the just concluded Euro 2020 tournament. Brazilian international Telles has not been able to dislodge Shaw at left-back since his arrival from Portugal at the start of last season. The form of Shaw restricted Telles to just nine games in the Premier League last as Manchester United finished the campaign in second place behind city rivals Manchester City.
