Solskjaer praises Bruno Fernandes’ set-piece taking abilities

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has described Bruno Fernandes as a top player after the Portuguese came up with a brilliant delivery from a corner which contributed to Harry Maguire’s first-ever Premier League goal for the club. The 25-year-old only made his second appearance in the United shirt on Monday night against Chelsea and he produced a good performance from the number 10 spot with three key chances created.

As a result, he was voted by United fans as their player of the match and Solskjaer was likewise appreciative of the display from the club’s January signing. He told: “He’s a top player, he wants to get on the ball. But at set-ball delivery he’s top class, one of the better ones I’ve seen. And Harry, we know if he can get a run on the ball he’s dangerous and he got the goal.”

Jesse Lingard Praises Influence of Fred and Marcus Rashford

Manchester United’s winger Jesse Lingard praised the influence of Fred and Marcus Rashford in recent games. The duo have been crucial in helping United claim wins over Manchester City and Tottenham in recent weeks. This has improved hopes of United finishing in the top four, as they are now just four points behind Chelsea after 17 matches. These victories have come at a time when a lot of questions were asked about manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ability to lead a huge club like Manchester United. Rashford has come up with three goals in these two games while Fred has been impressive in midfield.

The duo have also been criticised at various stages. Fred has been constant source of criticism ever since making a big-money transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk under Jose Mourinho. Rashford, meanwhile, has been blowing hot and cold in the last couple of years. Lingard was himself on the fringes of first-team before being brought back by Solskjaer. Now, Lingard says that Rashford and Fred have been making immense contribution to the team over the last few games and he expects the momentum to continue. Apart from performing well in the domestic competitions, United also sealed the top spot in the Europa League with a 4-0 win against AZ Alkmaar.

Manchester United Have Improved since Everton Humiliation, SaysSolskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that Manchester United have improved tremendously since suffering a 4-0 defeat against Everton back in April. This was seen as one of the biggest low points ofSolskjaer’s reign at the club. It led to many questioning his future and the decision by United to appoint him as the replacement for Jose Mourinho. Even though United have been far from consistent in the 2019-20 campaign, the team has been doing well to themselves in contention for the top four places. The club head into the weekend’s game against Everton without a defeat in the last four matches across all competitions.

Crucially, the club has been able to reach the upper stages of the Europa League after a comprehensive 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.United have also been able to win the group as a result. There is less doom and gloom surrounding United, but the team has to continue this good run of form in order to have a chance of finishing in the top four. For a club of United’s magnitude, they need to be regularly qualifying for the Champions League. United are four points away from Chelsea after 17 matches even after substantial strengthening in the summer with the arrivals of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James, and Harry Maguire.

Rio Ferdinand names Daniel James as Manchester United’s most influential player

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said that Daniel James has been the Red Devils’ most influential player during the opening stages of the campaign. The Wales international was the least high-profile signing made by United during the summer transfer window but he has already made an impressive contribution in the attack with three goals in the Premier League.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Ferdinand said that no one expected James to make a quick impression but he has certainly become the most influential player within the squad, he told: “I don’t think they [United] expected what they have got from Daniel James so early on in his Manchester United career. He’s probably been their most influential player so far, so what does that really say about that squad? You’re buying someone from Swansea who was probably brought in as someone who is going to flourish at a later date. However, he’s been forced to the forefront as their main man in the team at the moment. That really says where Manchester United are at this minute in time.”

Solskjaer praises Scott McTominay in the aftermath of Leicester City win

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised midfielder Scott McTominay in the aftermath of the club’s 1-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford. The Red Devils took an early lead through a Marcus Rashford penalty in the eighth minute and thereafter put up a strong defensive display to restrict the Foxes from a clear sight of goal.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer was pleased with the defensive resolve shown by the players following a run of three winless league games. He added to praise the performance of McTominay, who won his aerial duels while making the joint-most recoveries during the course of the game, he told: “I thought McTominay was excellent. He lost the ball a few times, but you expect that because he’s still learning his role. He goes into tackles and he’s a leader. I wouldn’t want to go into a 50-50 with him! I thought he did excellent all day.”

Solskjaer wants more goals from Marcus Rashford this season

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting Marcus Rashford to kick on from the previous season and contribute more goals in the Premier League. The England international managed just 10 goals in the top-flight during the course of the 2018/19 campaign, but Solskjaer believes the forward can show an improvement this term with the additional experience gained.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I think Marcus is developing really well. He’s growing, you see his stature now, his body. He’s capable of playing more this year. He struggled with his ankle last season, so this year I expect more from him. But the whole squad, we’re fitter, we’re stronger. You can see in that second half we are more than capable of lasting games. He’s getting fitter and is a year older. We’ve had six weeks to work on a shape we want to look like and he’s exceptional when there’s space in behind.”

Wayne Rooney speaks on Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged the club’s board to make a decision over Paul Pogba’s future before the start of the Premier League season. The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer but so far, Los Blancos have not made an official approach to land his signature.

Still, the speculation over the midfielder’s future has refused to cease and Rooney has suggested that Pogba’s future may be dependent on the mutual decision between the manager, board and the player himself, he said: “Should they [sell him]? It’s obviously down to the club, the board, the manager but also the player. I think if the player wants to stay, he’ll stay and prove what a good player he is. Again I think behind the scenes I’m sure they’re working on ways whether it’s to keep him or to let him go.”

Paul Pogba’s attitude does not help Manchester United – Andy Mitten

Football expert Andy Mitten has said that Manchester United should consider the sale of midfielder Paul Pogba, given he does not represent with the right attitude. The Red Devils only managed a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season and much of the blame was put on Pogba despite the fact that he was the club’s top-scorer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mitten said that the situation of Pogba has been an unedifying mess. He added that the midfielder has not lived up to the expectations due to the inconsistency and the club would be better off without the France international, he told: “It’s an unedifying mess. Pogba joined Manchester United in 2016 to make Manchester United great again.

Neville insists Manchester United won’t win the league in next two years

Manchester United legend-turned-pundit Gary Neville has said that the Red Devils don’t stand a chance of competing for the Premier League title in the next few seasons. The Mancunian giants managed a disappointing sixth-place finish in the Premier League last term and reports have since emerged that they could be working with a limited pre-sales budget of around £100m.

Speaking to The Bild, Neville insisted that United are in need of a major squad rebuild and they may require at least two more seasons before they can start competing for the Premier League crown, he said: “There has to be a lot of change here. With the exchange of some players it is not done. It will not be possible for United to become a champion for the next two years.”
