Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has revealed that he would love to see the club signed Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos, who is widely expected to depart German football in the summer. The 24-year-old is out of contract next summer. Hence, Bayern Munich will be willing to accept a lower transfer fee rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer. Manchester United were thought to be one of the clubs heavily interested in him a few months ago. Now, the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid have also entered into the race to sign the German international.
Scholes has been one of the finest passers of the ball in the history of United. In many ways, Kroos is a player that is very much similar to him. Since the decline of Scholes, United have struggled to create opportunities from midfield. The former midfielder believes that the club can solve this problem by signing Kroos. It is well-known that Kroos enjoys a great relationship with new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal. He came through the ranks at Bayern Munich when the Dutchman was in charge of the club.
United are expected to spend heavily in the summer and they have already closed in on a deal for Southampton left back Luke Shaw. “I love watching Toni Kroos. I think he’s brilliant. I love the way he controls the ball and controls games. He can really play a pass and has superb vision.
Kroos is capable of scoring goals too, from outside the box on either foot. I just wish Manchester United had signed him. Yes, it is good to see United bringing in new players, but they haven’t signed anything like the quality of Kroos,” said Scholes.
United are also thought to be looking at getting Herrera from Atletic Bilbao.
